ABOUT REFEREES

Referees are valued members of the South Delta community.  Players as young as twelve can begin officiating our local games.  Those who want to referee must take the necessary courses.

Those who take on this role will better learn the rules of the game, they will build confidence and learn how to assert themselves around players and parents…and make a little spending money as well!

As a referee you will make mistakes – that is all part of the learning process. South Delta United has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to poor behavior towards our referees and expect our coaches to take a leading role in supporting you.

There are two refereeing clinics applicable to youth referees.  The club will usually host one of each per year. Dates currently TBA.

The Small Sided Referee Clinic is the basics of refereeing and is offered to individuals who are 12 years of age and older. Once an individual is successful in passing this clinic, they are classified as a Small Sided Referee and may officiate in any match with players between U-6 and U-12.

The Entry Level Referee Clinic is the entry point into 11 a-side soccer. Once an individual is successful in passing this clinic they will be classified as a Youth Referee (if they are 14 or 15 years old) or a District Referee  (if they are 16 years old or older).
